What is MAT?

--An MAT specialist operates under the perspective that muscle tightness is a reaction response to muscle weakness.

--Muscles "tighten up" in a protective effort to guard against joint instability.

--By making use of a detailed system which observes range of motion, lifestyle, health history, and an individuals interests, goals and thresholds to physical activity, the MAT specialist has an opportunity to positively influence a persons health, attitude, and sense of well being.

How does it work?

This multidisciplinary school of thought seeks to observe, discover, analyze, and learn from the bio mechanics of the human body, its correlating relationship to and presence within gravity, space and the forces its comes in contact with. Based on an individuals present physical state, the certified MAT specialist will make choices of how to observe an individuals current range of motion in both a global, segmental, and specific manner. This may reveal compensation patterns, which give the MAT specialist a platform by which to correlate muscle weakness to muscle tightness. By observation of joint and limb range of motion through passive and active movement patterns in specific limb and joint positions, muscle tests are employed to determine the role that the muscular system may be playing throughout a given joint range. A thought process is then developed in an effort to decipher any compensatory patterns which may be present and prior to decisions that may elicit change, the practitioner will gather as much information and data as possible regarding the health history and lifestyle choices of the individual in an effort to meet the client at their current presenting level, rather than add insult to injury as is so often the case in today's fitness, health, wellness and rehabilitation industries. Muscle tests are then used help the MAT specialist discover weakness and muscular inhibition, which may be resulting in or causing compensatory tightness and limited performance. The body will "tighten up" muscles in an attempt to safeguard and protect against joint instability or vulnerability if the nervous system senses risk to its current endurance threshold. Very often thought of as the problem alone, muscle tightness, (our protective mechanism) when addressed from its weaker links by way of deliberate and well thought out muscle tests and pattern observation, can be quite revealing. The MAT specialist will then strategically assign and teach isometric exercises as the first step toward improving weaknesses and influencing joint range of motion. As stability improves at this basic level, specific and strategic micro-progressions are now possible and necessary in order to move forward and improve a client's stability and endurance threshold for their chosen activities and continue to advance forward on their "Fitness Through health" continuum. As they work out at the gym, attend yoga, pilates, modern dance and martial arts classes, or hit the slopes and playing fields, these first stages can ultimately determine their performance and rate of success in doing what they enjoy by respecting a client's current fitness level and performance threshold.

Ideal for any age or lifestyle, MAT can profoundly influence the physical health of most people by addressing the muscular imbalances that may lead to discomfort and pain. By having a systematic thought process, committed individuals gain a greater understanding of how their body works over a course of time by developing their Inner Eye, and what may be holding them back on a muscular level. This process can assist in improving health, attitude, and overall performance be it working in an office, exercising, or the effort of improving function following an injury or surgery.

Adam seeks to bridge the bio-mechanic principles of MAT and RTSM with the inclusion of his Holistic lifestyle Coaching HLC3 and modification through Metabolic Typing CMTA to assist his clientele in attaining, improving and maintaining a greater state of health and well being. Confident, committed, healthy, happy, strong & flexible, self aware, physiques are some of the beneficial results of working with Adam.
